Recruited at INRA in 1993, I first jointly conducted a research programme on barley and wheat at the Mons-Péronne (Somme) plant breeding research station. On barley, my activities concerned the coordination with Louis Jestin (INRA Clermont) of the INRA winter barley breeding programme and the search for genetic resistance to barley yellow mosaic viruses. On wheat, that became my main interest after 2000, my field of research was on the genetic determinism of nitrogen use efficiency. I particularly focused on the genetic variability for this trait and its components developping quantitative genetics studies permitted by the development of molecular tools. In 2007, I moved to the Clermont-Ferrand genetics and plant breed research unit. My main interest remains on the genetic determinism of nitrogen use with some stress on grain proteins content and the utilisation of crop models to help in the genetic dissection of the traits.
